Jeff Carroll brings The Streetz series

Hip Hop Comix N Flix created the Streetz series to reintroduce readers to the kind of bold, unconventional storytelling made famous by classics like Tales from the Crypt, Eerie, Creepy, and Mad Magazine—publications that challenged conventions, explored different genres, and entertained generations of readers.

The Streetz series was born out of Jeff Carroll’s desire to expand the scope of Black comics and storytelling. Feeling that the industry was oversaturated with superheroes and barbarians, Jeff often joked, “I’m not writing a Black Superman or Black Conan story.” Instead, he set out to create more opportunities for Black-centered science fiction, horror, crime, thrillers, comedy, and other unconventional stories that went beyond traditional comic-book formulas.

The series began with Sci-Fi Streetz, a novel collecting Jeff Carroll’s science-fiction stories. He followed it with Horror Streetz Volume 1, a collection of short horror comics billed as Hip Hop Horror Stories. Two more horror comics followed: Horror Streetz Summer and Horror Streetz Fall. The lineup later expanded with CyberFunk Streetz, Spoof Streetz, and HELLMONIC Streetz, each bringing its own unique flavor to the Streetz universe.

The series continues to grow with Grindhouse Streetz: HollaWeen, Jeff’s first Streetz one-shot. Upcoming projects include Space Streetz and another Grindhouse Streetz featuring the one-shot story Cannabis Man. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of his award-winning film Gold Digger Killer, Jeff is also planning one of his biggest Streetz projects yet: Crime Streetz, an anthology of crime stories featuring some of the top Black crime writers.

Looking beyond individual titles, Jeff plans to make the Streetz series an ambassador for his approach to comic-book storytelling through Tales for the Streetz, scheduled for release in October 2027. Designed to feel like a greatest-hits collection, this book will bring together some of the most talked-about stories from across the series, introducing readers to the creativity, diversity, and unexpected twists that define the Streetz experience.

Stories planned for Tales for the Streetz include “SlushieMan” from HELLMONIC Streetz, “Take My Organs Please” from Space Streetz, “The Ass Doctor” from CyberFunk Streetz, and possibly “Don’t Let Them Get in Your Head” from Horror Streetz Summer.

Through the Streetz series, Jeff Carroll and Hip Hop Comix N Flix continue to push beyond familiar formulas, blending genres, exploring new ideas, and creating stories that reflect a wider range of Black imagination and experience. The Streetz series isn’t about following the usual rules of comics—it’s about opening the door to stories readers don’t always get to see.

Conjuring Baba

In this Tie-In the villian from Conjuring Baba fights The Twa Man.  The comic book story is Kabaz’s origin story.

Stay Out

Stay Out is my spoof of Jordan Peels movies Get Out and Us.  In the tie-in story it features a story that could be a back story of the characters in Get Out as well as my movie Stay Out.

The Black Nun

The Black Nun is a Diety and with Dieties they treat you based on how you treat them.  In the movie the Black Nun has one energy and in the comic book she fights Krampus with another energy.

Nightmare Streetz

Nightmare Streetz is my big book of Tie-in Stories. It feature the stories that tie-in Conjuring Baba, Stay Out and The Death Pledge.
